Rock-paper-scissors

Objective

Complete an obstacle course as quickly as possible.

Organisation

⌛Duration: 15+ min

👥Participants: teams of 3-6 players

⚙️️Equipment: various obstacles, tailored to the level of the participants

Description

One team starts at point A, the other at point B. Each team sends one player in the obstacle course towards the opponent's base. When they meet together, they perform one round of rock-paper-scissors.

  • The winner can keep going forward.
  • The loser goes back to their base. Their team immediately sends another player to block the advance of the opponent.

When a player overcomes the last obstacle before the opponent's base, they can be blocked one last time. If they win this last duel, they score the point for their team.

When a player reaches the opponent's base, they score a point for their team. The game continues immediately, with both teams sending another player. Play one round against the clock, then the teams switch sides for the second round.

Example of a set-up indoors for 4 teams: the two teams at the top play against each other; the two teams at the bottom play against each other.

Variations

➖/➕Impose specific techniques

➖/➕Vary the obstacles and distances between the two teams

➕Playing RPS with the feet: players jump at the same time, and pick their landing position (feet apart = leaf; feet together = rock; legs crossed = scissors)

Notes

Be sure to use obstacles that pose little danger in stressful situations: appropriate height and fall area.

The RPS played with the feet (see variations) is a very interesting form for parkour, but it is very cognitively demanding.
